Overview

Neckbeard Samurai is a short platforming game built in Unity. It uses provided assets such as enemies and area mechanics to create difficult challenges for the player to overcome in a single, slow paced level. Neckbeard Samurai tells the story of a lone weeaboo, living in his mother's basement with nothing but his computer and his body pillow waifu, Pillo-chan. While out for snacks one day, Pillo-chan's parent company, Chad corp, orders a total recall on all of its body pillow products, and our hero’s waifu is brought back to the main headquarters of Chad corp. When our hero discovers his waifu missing, he embarks out on a journey to the corporate world to save his paramour. 

On his quest, the Neckbeard Samurai would have to face a number of trials, defeating enemies, navigating dangerous narrows, and performing some absolute hardcore parkour.


The first of the trials involved passing through a tower of enemies. On the first level, our hero faced the walking enemy, the virgin, who simply walked at a slow speed and damaged the player on touch. The virgin could easily be dispatched if the player maintained their distance, jumped over to strike from behind, or waited for the virgin to turn around so they could attack.

On the next level, the hero encountered the hard seltzer throwing enemy, Stacy. The Stacy enemy used deflectable ammunition to attack the player from a short distance, but could also harm the player on touch. This would force the player to learn to block projectiles while simultaneously jumping over their enemies. The encounter was only slightly more difficult than the previous fight, but could still take out a few much needed points from the Samurai's already low health pool.


On the third level of the first tower, the Samurai was forced to traverse the toxic air of the Smoker. This puzzle used gravity to float the player through hazards. The hazards could kill on touch, but the player was benefited by a checkpoint at the start of this floor. To pass this area, the player had to float up to the top of the floor, and carefully guide the Samurai through a narrow zig zag of Smoker hazards. At the very end of this level, the player had to make a sharp move to the left, otherwise they'd fall into a line of smokers. This proved to be difficult for both beta testers and for the game's designer, but was more satisfying to complete.

On the last level, the Samurai entered the main tower of Chad corp, where he had to use  all of his acquired skills to reach the top floor. Dodging past smokers, jumping from wall to wall, and making grand leaps into teleporters would lead him to the roof of Chad corp, where his betrothed was guarded by the unstoppable Chad himself.

The Chad enemy had twice the hit points of the virgin and did twice the damage. He damaged on touch, fired projectiles at a short range, and moved at a fast speed, making it difficult to fight without having learned to jump over and strike from behind. Upon his defeat, Chad disappears and is replaced by your body pillow waifu, Pillo-chan.
